We all get blocked sometimes. You sit in front of your computer, getting increasingly annoyed by the blinking cursor on the pristine, white page of your empty document – and you wonder why you can’t just write some words already.
This frustration feeds any insecurities lurking on the edge of your consciousness, and before you know it, you’ve convinced yourself you’ll never be able to write – or worse, that you don’t actually know as much as you thought you did about your topic.
It doesn’t have to be this hard.
We use the term writer’s block to refer to lots of different issues like procrastination (which isn’t about being lazy or undisciplined), fear, perfectionism, emotional resistance, and more.
This course examines the blocks one type at a time so you can better identify what’s keeping you from writing. This knowledge brings power.
Once you know what’s causing the block, you can work to resolve it.
How is this course different?
Note, I haven’t said anything like busting through your block or annihilating it. I don’t think these violent metaphors are useful.
I want you to learn that writer’s block can help you as a writer. It can teach you about yourself. And it can tell you a lot about what you’re writing (or not) and why.
How is it structured?
I’ll break the types of blocks into groups and create short videos for each type. For those who prefer to read, I’ll also give you a pdf transcript that has been edited for readability.
There will be a workbook to go along with the video/pdf lessons. Also, you’ll get two 30-minute calls with me to talk about your specific writer’s block issues – one soon after you start the course and the other soon after you finish; that way we can discuss the progress you’re making in dealing with your own blocks.
